The Sunshine Coast’s Maroochydore is the perfect spot to be these summer holidays. Being the hub of the Sunshine Coast, it is where it’s all happening with a whole host of “summery” activities to engage in.
Here’s the scoop on where to have lots of summer fun in Maroochydore:
Best Places to Swim
Maroochy River – The calm shallow waters and white sandy shores of the river near the river mouth and Pincushion Island are ideal for swimming, particularly for small children.
Maroochydore Beach – Swim within the flagged patrolled area of the beach, patrolled by lifeguards or walk down to the river mouth.
Serenity Falls, Buderim – For a reinvigorating freshwater swim try the best but not-so-well-kept secret swimming spot at Serenity Falls in the Buderim State Forest.
Cotton Tree Aquatic Centre – If you want to do some laps or entertain the kids for hours then the heated swimming pools and Waterpark at Cotton Tree Aquatic Centre are great.
Best Places to Surf
Maroochydore Beach – Anywhere between Maroochydore and Alexandra Headland provides a small well-formed wave that supplyies power and speed. Very rippable.
Pincushion – Behind the caravan park next to the Maroochy rivermouth. WSW winds, all tides and nice SE swell normally sees some hollow peaks.
Alexandra Headland – There is good swell direction for fun beginner waves near Alexandra Point. Rights and lefts break over sand with rocks off the point and also exposed coffee rock scattered on the shoreline.
